"With my eyes, through my lens, I share with you the lives of the people I meet and the places I travel. They may look different, may not be wealthy, they may not hold positions of great importance, in many cases they live on the edges of society ... but they all have a story to tell. It's in their eyes, their faces, their hands, their expressions. If we have nothing left of material value at the end of our lives, we will all still have our stories. If we take the time to really see and listen, we can all learn to tolerate, share, and understand."
Born in Michigan, Cynthia is one of six children. Travel and adventure have been her goals from a young age. Luckily she met her soul mate in her husband, Mike. Together they have lived and traveled extensively throughout the world.
Following her college years, Cynthia was an avid photographer but due to an unfortunate accident, she lost all of her camera gear in Egypt and all of the film from a round-the-world trip. Thinking maybe it was a sign for a change, she focused her love of color, texture, and art on textiles.
In 1983, Cynthia and her family moved to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. After residing in the Emirates for seven years, Cynthia, Mike and their son Zachary, took a two-year hiatus and sailed their thirty-three-foot Hans Christian sailboat through the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea to Spain.
Back on firm ground in Abu Dhabi, Cynthia started her company "Simple Pleasures". Following twenty-seven years of quilt and textile design and authoring five books for the quilting industry, she has again come full circle, back to her first love, photography.
With a free spirit and a gypsy heart, Cynthia's quest is to tell the unwritten stories and appreciate the quiet beauty, to see ordinary life in a different light, to see the unusual in the common everyday, and the unexpected in routine. Photography is a visual poem. It tells us... life is art and art is a reflection of our lives. Life is a beautiful place to be.
Cynthia's passion for travel and photography have taken her around the globe. She is fascinated by unusual cultures and customs, focusing primarily on tribal cultures, rare wildlife, and street photography. She is currently based in Phuket, Thailand with her husband Mike and her Yorkie Oliver.
